OPEN RESEARCH POSITIONS
Antigen Processing and Presentation: Research Specialist
We have an immediate opening for a full-time Hourly Research Specialist to conduct basic research on MHC I antigen processing and presentation. The Hourly Research Specialist will collaborate with the Principal Investigator and other laboratory researchers to design and perform laboratory experiments using biochemical and molecular biology approaches, and will also perform general laboratory maintenance tasks.
Primary responsibilities:
Conduct basic research in the area of antigen processing and presentation.
Maintain insect cell cultures (Sf9, High5 cells) for protein expression to support crystallization trials.
Perform complex laboratory experiments using biochemical and molecular biology approaches.
Analyze and evaluate research results.
Contribute data and materials to the writing of manuscripts, grants, and other related documents based on research findings.
Implement both new and existing methods, procedures, and techniques.
Maintain comprehensive laboratory protocols and records of results.
Assist with maintaining laboratory stock and inventories.
Qualifications:
This position requires a Bachelor or Master degree in a biological science field (biochemistry, biology, or cell biology preferred) and a minimum of two to three years related research experience. Prior experience with basic biochemical experiments, protein expression and purification, tissue culturing, PCR, and/or plasmid construction is highly desirable.
For immediate consideration, please submit a cover letter to mbouvier@uic.edu and complete a resume listing publications and three references.
Host-Pathogen Interactions: Research Scientist/Postdoctoral Associate
We have an immediate opening for a Research Scientist or Postdoctoral Associate, based on number of years of research experience, who will play an active role in our ongoing studies of immune evasion mechanisms involving Adenovirus and immune cell surface receptors. We are seeking a highly motivated and intellectually curious individually with a rigorous training in virology or immunology and hands on experience in molecular biology and other techniques such as generation of virus stocks, determination of virus titers, acquisition and analysis of flow cytometry data, quantitative PCR, cell-based and biochemical assays, and maintenance of mammalian cells. Experience with imaging techniques would be a plus. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to gain knowledge in structural virology/immunology.
Qualifications:
PhD degree in Virology, Immunology, Molecular Biology or related fields with at least 2 years, after receiving PhD degree, of hands on research experience in the techniques listed above. Excellent communication skills.
For immediate consideration, please submit a cover letter to mbouvier@uic.edu and complete a resume listing publications and three references.
